Cielo

A design inspired by the work of Sienese and Florentine artists of the late medieval/early renaissance period. Their rivalry and one upmanship, fed by their desire to reflect celestial glory and amplify their own earthly glory, led to the technical developments that fuelled the ongoing artistic renaissance.

We have designed three new rugs for The Fairy Tales collection. The art of the early Renaissance period lends its pigmentation to create pieces both distinct in narrative yet with creation at their core - from the heavens, the earth and  by the hands of humans.

An un-mappable magical lake, lapped by sand and sky, traceable only by the desert people. This is how ‘Cielo’ was interpreted  by the author of our fairy tales. The design was originally inspired by the  skies of early Renaissance art, cleaved apart by the heavenly beings  communicating with those below. Either way, it represents the glory of the unknown - a space which cannot be found except through the voices which speak  of it.
